Monday's Blog is Full of Thanks

It's Monday! Here at TBITO (The Blonde in the Office) that mean's we take a minute to find 5 things we're thankful. Here are mine:

1) Holidays. I love them. We get to take a few days a year to celebrate, take time off of work, and spend time with our family.

2) Cups of tea. Tazo is my favorite.

3) Puppy kisses. My puppy likes to hug me (no joke!) and give me kisses.

4) Industrial size bottles of coffee creamer. We go through it like water in my house.

5) Netflix. I spend a lot of money to keep myself entertained, and Netflix helps me save some of it.

Leave me a comment and share your five with me!

Christmas Haul

Christmas 2012 has officially come and gone. For today's post, I wanted to share a little bit of my Christmas with you. I know a post full of pictures doesn't technically qualify as an actual post, but let's just pretend for this one day.

Christmas TAG

I wasn't actually tagged by anyone to do a Christmas tag, but I thought it would be fun to do anyway. I watched what felt like 3 dozen Christmas tag videos on YouTube and picked out five of my favorite questions.

1) When do you start getting excited about Christmas?

This one kind of varies for me. Usually I like to wait about 2 weeks after Thanksgiving to start pulling out the decorations, but I do a lot of my Christmas shopping online on Black Friday. It's hard not to get excited when you find a great gift for someone you love on sale for 50% or more off!

2) What are some of your favorite Christmas movies?

I have so many! The ones I watch religiously, every year, are A Muppet Christmas Carol, Elf, The Santa Clause, and of course The Grinch, both live action and animation. I tend to watch the animated version anytime it's on. I absolutely love the Who's!

3) White lights or colored lights?

White usually. I do like strands of single colored lights like red or blue. I don't really like multicolored strands for some reason even though that's what I grew up on.

4) Do you have any Christmas traditions?

Sadly, no! About the only Christmas tradition that I've started is doing Christmas Eve at my house for me and my sister. I make dinner and we open presents, then play video games on the Wii until it's time for Santa to make his rounds!

5) Presents on Christmas Eve or Christmas morning?

Both! We do Christmas Eve at my house and my sister and I exchange gifts, then we go to our parents house on Christmas morning and exchange gifts with them.

Merry Christmas everyone! Have a wonderful day with your families!

Monday's Blog is Full of Thanks

Happy Monday! I know what you're thinking - how can this girl be happy on a Monday?! It's easy to be happy on a Friday. The work week is over, you get to go home to your family, and spend the weekend with friends. But Monday - you have to drag yourself out of bed, get dressed, do your hair and makeup, and you have to do all of this before the sun comes up. Mondays are no fun.

That doesn't mean, though, that you shouldn't find things to be thankful for. I like to do this everyday, but I think it's especially important on days when you don't want to do the things you need to do. Make a list, either on paper or in your head, of at least 3 things to be thankful for. They don't have to be those incredibly poignant things that some people blog about. They can actually be quite trivial, just as long as you're taking a few moments to be grateful about the things in your life. You might be surprised how much this small act can impact your mood.

Mine are:

Grande caramel brulee lattes

Internet on my phone

A gym at work

A lunch bag full of healthy food and snack

My jeans being 2 sizes smaller than they were in May

Have a wonderful Monday and remember to comment below and share some of your things with me!

Funny Friday 21Dec2012

I drafted this post on Tuesday of this week, then realized that Friday is the day the world is supposed to end. You know, if you buy into that whole Mayan thing. Personally, I think the calendar guy just got tired of carving little boxes.

Since we're all still here, I thought I'd give you a funny for your Friday. Have a great weekend and I'll see you all next week!

Good Nutrition

I found this on Pinterest and thought it was SO funny. It's true that once you start eating healthy, whole foods, junk will make you sick. That might sound like a problem to some people, but it's actually really great. It keeps me from binge eating when I'm in a bad mood and makes it easier to stay on track.

I eat about 5 times a day. Breakfast, morning snack, lunch, afternoon snack, and dinner. I drink 4 - 5, 20 oz bottles of water a day. I still drink coffee in the morning because I'm a caffeine addict, but I've cut back considerably on the amount of creamer and sugar that I use.

What I've Eaten Today:

Breakfast - two whole grain English Muffins, coffee

AM Snack - one large naval orange

Lunch - Grilled chicken breast seasoned with salt and pepper, whole kernel corn, and mashed squash (to replace potatoes)

PM Snack - cheese and cheddar crackers

Dinner - One 8 oz sirloin steak, one roasted zucchini cut into french fry shape and seasoned with garlic salt

What I Did Today:

One hour on the treadmill, minimum speed 3 mph, max speed 5.0 mph. I like to keep my exercises simple and easy, or I won't do them. I'm actually kind of lazy, and after a long day it's hard to motivate myself to go to the gym.

Mini Target Haul!

For our Christmas bonus this year my job gave us $25 Target gift cards. I know it doesn't seem like much, but I think it's a great way to show your employees that you care about them even in this difficult economic climate. It was also very well timed for me because I've been looking at trying foundation brushes lately.

I ended up getting two. The one on the left is a regular foundation brush for $1 by e.l.f. The brush on the right is a flat powder brush for $3, but it's the same shape and texture as a stippling brush, which I've also seen used for foundation. If you haven't heard of e.l.f., get thee to ASAP! Most of their products are under $5 but have the quality of $8 - $15 products.

I also bought a pack of Simple Cleansing Facial Wipes (middle) for $4.99. I plan to use these to take my makeup off before I get in the shower. I have a bottle of Olay Regenerist facial wash ($10.48) that I use in the shower with my Sephora Face Complexion Brush to actually clean my skin.

Please excuse the awful pictures. I need to change the bulb in my halogen work lamp but of course I don't have a spare!

I'll post reviews of both of the brushes as soon as I use them. As always, if you have any questions or comments, please leave them below!

This Might Be TMI - 2012 In Review

This year has been eventful. I know I have completely neglected my blog, and looking back I really wish that I hadn't. New Year's Eve is less than two weeks away - can you believe it?! - and coming out on the other side I wonder if perhaps my experiences this year might have helped someone else along the way. Here's a brief overview: March - my husband left for Korea and then stopped talking to me. We had been separated for almost a year but I was under the assumption that everything was alright. April/May - I developed an abdominal abscess and spent 4 days in the hospital. I was on antibiotics for 16 days and was subject to multiple doctor visits and ultrasounds. August - my best friend told me he was in love with me. We've been together ever since. October - I was involved in planning and executing a charity drive at my company - it was SO amazing and we raised $87k for the charity. November - I finally received my divorce papers scanned in my email. The year was not all bad, though. After my last follow up appointment in May I realized that my weight had gotten away from me and I was tired of it. I started making my own lunches and developed an exercise program. I've lost nearly 30 lbs and have become a HUGE health nut! It feels so good to be back in the same size jeans I was wearing 6 years ago. The only problem is that now none of my clothes fit! What a terrible problem to have, right? I know I've said it before but I really am going to try to do better. I don't believe in resolutions, but I do believe in goals. In the next year I'm setting a goal for myself to blog at least twice a week. I want to give sample menus from my diet and my exercise plans, do Birchbox openings and reviews, and continue to give tips about living a better life and succeeding at work. The blog is called The Blonde In the Office after all! If you have any questions or comments, please leave them below!
